Ultraviolet (UV) imaging techniques for crime scene investigation have been around for many years. But the methods used were often time consuming and sometimes difficult to reproduce. Longwave UV imaging of crime scenes is a very useful technique that has come of age due to the development of key technologies.

The field of forensic imaging has been slowly migrating to digital technology away from traditional film-based recording. Reflected UV imaging has been very slow to migrate to digital, and the migration has generally been unsuccessful, in part because of misinformation propagated by well-meaning "experts". This article explains what is required to get reflected UV images out of digital camera systems with near-UV response.

September 10, 2014: Oculus Photonics introduces UVSIS, an ultraviolet skin imaging system.  It combines the Oculus UV camera module with a video monitor and LED-based UV illuminators.  Users can look into the monitor and see sun damage on their faces in the UV.  They can also use the system to practice properly applying sunscreen.
